Viper 640

Viper 640The Viper 640 is a two to four person, high-performance sportboat. The open transom bails water instantly, even in extreme conditions. The Viper is simple, clean, and comfortable, with no protruding hardware and everything placed for efficiency. The Viper is light enough to be towed behind a compact car and simple enough to be rigged and sailed in under a half hour.

At ABYC, we have two cranes that can lanch the Viper and with nearly twenty boats we have the 2nd largest fleet in the world only behind Larchmont YC in NY. The 640 is strict one-design with no changes permitted to the boat as supplied by the class approved builder. The only option is sails, supplied by class approved sailmakers and strictly controlled through class rules, which encourages the development of tuning techniques with the help of the best sailors and sailmakers.

Come join us for great racing year round. We offer clinics, smaller club regattas to get your feet wet along with large events like Long Beach Race Week and in 2019 hosting the Viper 640 Worlds.  ABYC is an active, family oriented, volunteer driven club with myriad programs and activities for sailors, their families and friends. Contact fleet captain Nick Kofski for more information about the fleet or about joining ABYC, visit this link and come to see us soon.

Turkey Day Regatta was well attended with twelve boats showing up for decent weekend of racing.  Saturday was pretty light but RC pulled off three races and we had a three way tie for first place going into Sunday between  Mike PentecostNick Kofski and Mark Folkman.  Sunday’s breeze was a bit better but more of the same but in the end  Nice ASP pulled off the fattest turkey trophy by one point over  FNG.

Thanks to all the fleet regulars who put together drinks in Viper row on Saturday night and welcome to some new faces to the Viper fleet with Gabe Ferramola from the Lidos and Chris Raab  from Lasers / J70s.  All results below:
